Sony 20X Zoom Lens
The PMW-160 is equipped with a fixed 20X zoom lens with a wide angle of 29.5mm. With the quick electric zoom function, shooting from wide angle to tele angle is quick. The lens has three independent control rings which allows manual control of the focus, zoom and iris functions. The lens also has an image stabilizing function with shift lens mechanism. The filter diameter is 72mm. An optional Wide Converter Lens (VCL-HG0872K) is available and is sold separately.
Supports MXF and XDCAM EX™ Workflows
The PMW-160 is format selectable among MPEG HD422 (50Mbps), HD420 (24, 35Mbps) and DV. The PMW-160 can be used as a handheld camcorder for various types of file-based operation because it employs both industry-standard file formats: The MXF file format (UDF formatted cards) and MP4 file format (FAT formatted cards).
Professional SxS Memory Cards
The PMW-160 camcorder records on Sony's ultra-reliable SxS PRO™ and SxS-1 professional memory cards (sold separately). The cards feature high-speed data transfer to keep projects moving in post-production. For emergency backup when you're out on a shoot, you can also record onto optional Memory Stick®, SD or XQD cards using the appropriate adaptors (sold separately).
50Mbps HD422 Recording
In the UDF/MXF recording mode, you can record Full HD video (1920x1080) at up to 50Mbps using MPEG HD422 compression technology and enjoy the benefits of proven, high-speed and intuitive XDCAM HD422 workflow. With the PMW-160, you can also record video in MPEG HD (420) or DVCAM™ format. (Note: Proxy video is not available with the PMW-160).
3.5-inch WVGA (852×480) LCD Monitor
The PMW-160 is equipped with a large, easy-to-read, 3.5-inch* WVGA color LCD panel. This helps users to achieve precise focusing during critical focus control, especially when shooting in HD. The LCD panel also displays various guidance in support of shooting operations. For example, it can display a histogram to visualize contrast in the shooting image, lens information to show the approximate DoF value in the current lens setting, and brightness to show the picture brightness as a percentage.
